AQI drops to poor and moderate levels in major cities of AP

According to the latest AQI bulletin issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 4 pm on November 9, the temple town of Tirumala topped the pollution chart with the highest AQI reading of 212, with air quality in the’poor’ level. This was closely followed by Tirupati at 183, Amaravati at 132, Visakhapatnam at 117, and Rajamahendravaram at 107.

Vijayawada: Air Quality Index (AQI) readings across all major cities of Andhra Pradesh, including the temple town of Tirumala, surrounded by the pristine Seshachalam forests and hills, dropped to poor and moderate levels fromsatisfactory levels.

According to the latest AQI bulletin issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 4 pm on November 9, the temple town of Tirumala topped the pollution chart with the highest AQI reading of 212, with air quality in the’poor’ level. This was closely followed by Tirupati at 183, Amaravati at 132, Visakhapatnam at 117, and Rajamahendravaram at 107.

The AQI readings declined in all major cities except Vijayawada, which recorded an AQI of 62. Vijayawada remained the only city in the satisfactory category among the major cities, while the rest of the cities fell under the moderate category. Further, the AQI readings in Anantapur and Kadapa cities remained within satisfactory levels on Sunday.

In a concerning trend, the pollution levels atop Tirumala hills, known for itsvast green canopy and serene atmosphere, rose to an alarming note with ozone being a major pollutant in the last 24 hours ending at 4 pm on Sunday. While the maximum was 199 for the day. Additionally, the PM10 readings also remained in the moderate category, with an average reading of 87 and a maximum reading of 137 for the day.
